History

Yolo County was one of the eleven founding counties of the

state, established in 1850.

In 1850 the exact name was "Yola", Yolo is a Native name

being either a modification of the tribal word Yo-loy meaning

"an abundant place in rushes" or either the name of the chief,

Yodo , or the name of the village of Yodoi .

According to the Census Bureau, the county has a total area of ​​

2649.6 km² (1023 sq mi), of which 2,623.7 km² (1,013 sq mi) is land and 25.9 km² (10 sq mi) (0.94%) is water.
