History

San Joaquin County was founded in 1850. The San

Joaquin River that flows through the county gave it the

name. On an expedition in the early nineteenth century

Gabriel Moraga discovered the area and named it San

Joaquin after the Spanish name for Saint Joachim. 

Geography

San Joaquin County is located in the Californian Längstal,

about 100 km east of the San Francisco Bay Area.

According to the Census Bureau, the county has a total

area of ​​3,693.3 km²; of which 3,623.4 km² is land and 69.9 km² (1.89%) is water.
