History:

The present area of ​​San Diego was inhabited for more than

10,000 years by several indigenous tribes. In 1850, San Diego

County was one of the original counties of the state of California when it joined the Union. Parts of the County were divided to create Riverside County (1893) and Imperial County (1907).

Geography

According to the Census Bureau , the county has a total area of ​​11,722  km 2 (4,525.9  mi² ), of which 10 878  square miles (4200  mi² ) are land and 844  km² (325.9  mi² ) 20%) is water.
