History
Riverside County was created on 9 May 1893 from
parts of the San Bernardino County and San Diego
County. Previously, on May 2, 70% of voters had
decided to set up the company, and the city of
Riverside of the same name was chosen as the
administrative seat.
On 25 December 1899 and 21 April 1918 a severe earthquake occurred in San Jacinto.
Dr. June McCarroll of Indio suggested the use of road restrictions in 1915, which is why Riverside County is the birthplace of lane markings. Later, the county became a significant rallying place during the civil rights laws; Especially Riverside African influenced districts as well as the places in Coachella Valley with a high proportion of Hispanics, visited by César Chávez , played an important role.
Geography
Geographically, the county consists almost exclusively of desert, only in the west dominates the Mediterranean climate. On the other hand, the majority of the Joshua Tree National Park is also located in the county. The county is popular mainly because of the low cost of commuting commuters working in Los Angeles and San Diego. Together with the San Bernardino County, the Riverside County forms the Inland Empire, also known locally as IE.
The Riverside County is bordered to the southeast by the Imperial County, to the southwest by San Diego County, to the west by the Orange County, to the north by the San Bernardino County, and to the east by the La Paz County, Arizona. The distance from the east to the westernmost point of the county is about 290 kilometers. The whole state of New Jersey has roughly the same area as Riverside County. The journey time from the administration seat Riverside to the easternmost city Blythe was indicated by the administration in official documents with three hours. The eastern county border forms the Colorado River.
With 2,189,641 inhabitants (as of the 2010 census) and an area of 18,915 km², of which 18,667 km² are land area, the population density is 117.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. Riverside County is among the 58 counties in California, the fourth-highest population, and is one of the fastest-growing areas of the federal state in the 1960 to 2010 period. Around the capital Riverside and at the Interstates 10, 15 and 215 are extensive residential residences.
From the population, the county is often divided into individual regions; the Inland Empire is often counted only west of the San Gorgonio Pass, while the western part of the county is added to the Mojave or Colorado Desert. However, due to its size and geographical diversity, the county can be divided into many different types.
The centrally located Coachella Valley is well-known for holiday and recreation areas such as Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage and Desert Hot Springs. Last but not least, the places in Western County have experienced rapid growth, as many commuters employed in the Los Angeles region came here looking for affordable housing. In the south-west, there is also a considerable population flow from the metropolitan area of San Diego - Tijuana.
